WJ is more luxurious, larger but heavier and if you are considering getting a 4.0L I-6 get the XJ because it is about 400 lbs lighter and will have better response vs the WJ. If you get a WJ the 4.7s are good motors if they are cared for properly. They can last well over 200K miles if taken care of.

Overall, the Jeep Cherokee is an excellent platform and a great all-around vehicle. Over time, Jeep fixed some of the XJ's shortcomings, and XJ owners figured out how to address others. Here is a short list of some great modifications that can be done to improve the performance of any Cherokee. 1. Fender Trimming.
