When the new R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure were released in 2004, it came to market at the perfect time. Rising insurance rates for sports bikes, coupled with a growing social stigma around high-speed machines, meant sports bike riders were looking for something else to get their teeth into by the turn of the millennium.
The GS also featured BMS-K (BMW Engine Management System). An updated engine management system with a faster processing speed than before, it contained extra sensors to improve the bike’s fuel economy by 8%, ability to deal with low-octane fuels and throttle feeling. An ignition immobilisor was fitted as standard and the dash upgraded.

Left cylinder is hot, right is not. Ok, so no spark. Saturday's work: 1. Check coils. Started by swapping the primary coils, which resulted in the power delivery coming back above 4000 rpm, but still terrible idle. Focused on right side of the bike, verified it was not firing. Pulled and inspected both plugs.
